Expert Witness

He is a Consultant Plastic, reconstructive and hand surgeon and carrys out  medico-legal work and he has provided medical reports for solicitors for the last twenty one years. In this period he has provided  over 3800 medical reports.  These have been predominantly in the following areas of expertise:

·    Hand surgery: Sequelae of hand injuries and surgery

·    Soft tissue injury: Sequelae of  post traumatic scarring

·    Burns management: Sequelae of disability following burns injury, scarring and surgery.

·    Medical negligence in Cosmetic Surgery.

As a Plastic Surgeon he deals with hand injuries and is involved in dealing with these injuries, rehabilitating the patients and providing them with advice as to how they can return to work.  He  also gives advice on scars, comment on their prognosis and whether they can be improved by various forms of surgery. He treats patients with skin cancer and patients with burns. He also performs cosmetic  surgery,  including breast reduction, reconstruction, silicone implantation, liposuction, body contouring surgery and surgery for facial rejuvenation.

He has received certification from the Intercollegiate Cosmetic Surgery Oversight Committee as a certified cosmetic surgeon being on the General Medical Council’s specialist register and having demonstrated to the RCS that my training, professional skills, clinical skills and knowledge are of a satisfactory standard.

He has prepared a chapter for the Encyclopeadia of Forensic & Legal Medicine entitled “Medical Malpractice in Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery”

His fees are in the region of £650 plus VAT, depending on the complexity of the work involved.  His fees for medico-legal and clinical negligence work are £300 per hour, plus VAT.      His average fees for reports dealing with liability and causation are in the region of £750-950 plus VAT and condition and prognosis £650 to £850 plus VAT. He also takes photos at the time of interview if appropriate/necessary to the case.   He  provides secreening reports and the fees for these are generally based on the amount of notes and information that needs to be reviewed.  His fees for such reports are in the region of £500 to £550 plus VAT,

He provides reports based on remote assessments when suitable via Skype.

He can usually see a client within 4-12 weeks of receiving instructions and can generally provide a completed report 4-12 weeks after the date of interview assuming that all notes have been provided.

He also regularly give informal advice to Solicitors on the ‘phone and e-mail pro-bono, in cases of clinical negligence and to discuss the merits or otherwise of the case.  I also produce 2-3 page desktop reports.

He expects payment of fees within 6 months or completion of the case which ever is earlier.

He sees clients at Apollo Surgery, 619 Kings Rd, Birmingham B44 9HW and also Spire Little Aston Hospital, Little Aston Hall Drive, Sutton Coldfield B74 3UP.

His reports are prepared in accordance with new Civil procedure rules and  he would be prepared to act as a single joint expert. .   The percentage of work he undertakes for Claimants, Defendants and SJE would be in the region of 85:10:5.
